Stage of the journey

This is the very start of the path: a person has already taken the first step and has realized they can shape what happens, but now the next question comes up: “Where am I even supposed to go?”

What a person has already been through. Before the High Priestess comes the Fool — trust, the unknown, the first step — and the Magician — action, will, initiative, seeing what you’re capable of. So a person has already realized: “I can do something.” But the High Priestess stops them and seems to say: “Fine. Now stop doing and start listening.” Here a person first runs into the fact that not everything can be solved by action, logic and control. There’s inner knowing, intuition, the subconscious — things you can’t put into words yet.

Where the High Priestess leads — on to the Empress, card III. And that makes perfect sense: the Magician — I can; the High Priestess — I know / I sense; the Empress — I create. After building up inner knowing, a person starts making it real. So the High Priestess isn’t passivity and isn’t just “secrets.” It’s the shift from outer action to inner knowing.
